Clean Up Verses Catch Up

Vertical Triptych
This Triptych is 3 branches of a row of cherry trees. Not uploaded to my web sites at the time of posting but will update this post with a link to my store when I upload the image.

It has been a busy week for me with the garden working full tilt, catching up on being out on the road with my photography, creating a graphic a day at least, uploading & promoting, aquafit, managing my new FB group, and my latest endeavor of trying to clean out my laptop.

Yes, it is that time when everyone has to face that their computer just isn't keeping up to their demands of it. I am now dreading the fact that a laptop isn't good enough for me anymore. I need to revisit the world of table top computers, specifically gaming computers.

I have been doing OK for the past while with hooking my laptop up to a desktop monitor to do my work. With the monitor and the tablet working together my laptop has been getting a good workout and to date has not complained. I suppose with all the graphic work along with everyday use this old laptop owes me nothing. It is, after all, 5 or 6 years old and that seems to be the normal life span of these machines if treated well. It boggles my mind that the average electronic life is measured in milliseconds compared to how long we used to keep things in our lives but that's another story for another day.

Before you say it, yes, I know there are some pretty fast gaming laptops out there these days and they also have lots of storage space with great graphics cards. I have had a few computers in my day both laptop and desktop and have had perfectly good graphics cards fail on me. When doing the work I do it is comforting to know if that happens I can replace the card. You can not put a better graphics card or load up on ram in a laptop but you can on a good desktop. Being able to upgrade will give me a couple more years on the life span of a desktop as verses a laptop which is considered disposable. Maybe to the manufacturer a laptop is throw away but to the owner there is great loss attributed with that. It might be a nice dream but those money trees just don't grow in our backyards.

So in order to buy myself a few more months I have been emptying this old machine of anything graphic oriented that I don't need and loading it on my external drive. It holds 2 TB so I have plenty of room and I also have been backing up everything that I am leaving on the laptop too. Something I always promise myself I will do but never actually do it.

With this process done I am now finding things to be crawling along at a snails pace rather than the slug it has become. Good enough that I can now look forward to September when all the back to school sales come on. Then I will cross my fingers as I try to load my old CS6 onto the new machine. If it won't accept it I will have to look into another graphic suite to work with as the monthly fees for CC is just ridiculous. I have my eyes on Affinity It is half the price of CC and looks absolutely awesome to work with. It might even surpass Adobe in popularity these days. I might just switch because I want to and not because I have to. We will see.

In the meantime I have done all I can so I am working on some images of cherry blossoms since it is springtime and I have a lot of cherry blossoms waiting to be worked on. To save time in the catch up mode I am in I have doubled up, or I should say tripled up, on some images to create a couple of triptychs. In case this is a new word for you a triptych is a set of three associated artistic, literary, or musical works intended to be appreciated together. I started with a vertical triptych of my cherry blossoms and will end this post with a horizontal one. I have not yet uploaded these but when I do I will edit this post and supply a link so stay tuned. Maybe tomorrow or Tuesday. I have, however uploaded each of these images individually so check them out at my Pixels Store or my Redbubble Shop

Horizontal Triptych
This Triptych is 2 branches of a row of cherry trees. In the center is the row of cherry trees these close up were taken in. Not uploaded to my web sites at the time of posting but will update this post with a link to my store when I upload the image.

All my best

Leslie :)
